CPCE President Thomas Wipf elected as Moderator of the European Council of Religious Leaders

At its annual congress currently meeting in Sarajevo, the European Council of Religious Leaders (ECRL) chose the President of the Community of Protestant Churches in Europe, Thomas Wipf, as Moderator. In a first reaction the General Sekretary of CPCE, Bishop Michael Bünker, congratulated Wipf on his new function.

„It is certainly no accident that a representative of the protestant churches was chosen for this leadership task,” said Bunker. “Protestant churches are constantly engaged in interreligious dialogue and open for pluralism from their own distinctive standpoint.”

“On the basis of his many years of experience in responsible leadership functions in European organizations like CPCE and CEC, Thomas Wipf is predestined for this task,” explained Michael Bunker at the CPCE centre in Vienna. “The CPCE’s main motto of unity in reconciled diversity will also accompany him in the future in view of the challenges facing all religious communities in Europe.”

The Swiss reformed theologian Thomas Wipf follows the Norwegian bishop Gunnar Stalsett, who had moderated ERCL since its foundation in 2002.
